Rachel Alvelais is graduate student in inorganic chemistry at the University of California, Irvine. In 2018 she received her BS in chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she was recognized as a University of California Undergraduate Research Ambassador.
For many years, she loved science but could not picture herself pursuing any specific STEM career. Her first undergrad research experience introduced her to the diverse, vivacious, and creative scientific community, and she could finally picture herself among them pursuing a scientific career. Drawing on her experience on a high school newspaper, she founded Composite to share with the world how creative and diverse those who pursue STEM fields are.
